The Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry (IGIC) at BAS is a leading scientific organization in the field of Chemical Sciences and Technologies according to the independent evaluation of the scientific activities of all institutes and universities in Bulgaria (commissioned by the Commission to the Ministry of Education and Science). Тhe scientific staff of IGIC consists of 58 scientists, including one corresponding member of BAS, 5 professors, 27 associate professors, 16 assistant professors and 9 assistants. The innovation activities are focused on the development of clean technologies. As a recognition of its status and scientific potential, in 2018, IGIC was elected as the coordinator of the largest, newly established Centre of Excellence in Bulgaria. Named the National Centre for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies, it was founded with the support of the OP “Science and Education for Smart Growth”.
